The emergence of Dromoland Castle is a welcome addition to the array of great courses in the region. Not so long ago, the course did little justice to its opulent surroundings but thanks to a redesign project led by Ron Kirby and legendary Irish Amateur Joe Carr, Dromoland Castle now measures some 6,824 yards and deserves to be played as a golf course in its own right, not merely as a resort course. It also brings an inland flavour to a region boasting two excellent links courses in Lahinch and Doonbeg.
